A Visit to Iceland
with Nancy Langton, Associate Professor Emeritus, Sauder School of Business
Eight friends and four vehicles set out to explore Iceland in July 2025. It was a self-driving road trip into the interior of the western half of the country. For the most part, the daily driving avoided the Ring Road, the common way to drive around Iceland. Instead, we travelled the F roads, crossing rivers with our vehicles and being off the beaten path. Iceland’s landscapes and geological activity are unparalleled. The interior consists of volcanic plateaus, lava fields, glaciers, and rivers flowing to the sea. On many of the roads we traveled , it was legally required to drive 4x4 vehicles. We skipped many of the common tourist attractions in order to see incredible landscapes. We ended the trip—still eight friends but only three vehicles.
The presentation will look at Iceland beyond the normal attractions to explore the adventurous side of the country. That said, we stayed in many beautiful towns and villages. So while the days were off the beaten path, the evenings featured beautiful places to stay and refresh.
