Call for Additional Nominations for UBC Emeritus College Council

1. Nominating Committee 2023-2024

This year's nominating committee is chaired by Anne Junker (Past Principal). Members are: Linda Leonard, Sandra Wilkins, Graeme Wynn. 
The committee prepared this year's slate which received approval by Emeritus Council members at their April 3 meeting.

The Committee now invites further nominations from members due by May 3, 2024.

2. Proposed slate of candidates for election to the Emeritus College Council for 2024-25

Principal  - William McCutcheon, Physics and Astronomy
Current Vice-Principal of the Emeritus College

Vice-Principal – Sandra Bressler, Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy
Current Programs Cluster Coordinator
Current member of the Transition to Retirement Committee
Past Council member

Three-year term (2024-2027)

3. which positions are available

Officers and College Council members

Officers (Vice-Principal, Principal, and Past Principal)
Nominations for the positions of Vice-Principal, Principal, and Past Principal have been approved by the UBC Provost prior to circulating the slate (as per Sections. 7.17.2).

College Council Members (Members-at-Large)
There are 9 College Council members (“Members-at-Large”). Three are to be elected each year for staggered three-year terms (Sections 7.45.1.4). 

4. How to submit additional nominations

“The Nominating Committee will accept additional nominations for College Council Officers and Members-at-Large if the individuals proposed for nomination agree
to be nominated and the nominations are submitted by at least five College Members per nomination at least 10 business days before the applicable Annual Meeting” (Sect 7.3).

Additional nominations should be received by email no later than May 3, 2024 by the College Administrative Manager, Saundra van Ark (manager@emerituscollege.ubc.ca).
Please indicate for which position you would like to nominate the person.

5. Next step: Elections in May

“The College Members will vote for Principal, Vice-Principal and Members-at-Large at each Annual Meeting. If there are no nominations in addition to the slate of nominees proposed by the nominating Committee, a majority of votes cast by the College Members is necessary to elect the slate of nominees proposed by the Nominating Committee. In the event that there are multiple candidates for a position, the candidate with the greatest number of votes will be elected that position” (Sect. 7.4).

The proposed date for the Annual meeting is May 15, 2024 and the election will take place online prior to the Annual Meeting.
More information on the online voting will follow closer to the date.
