Financial Advising/Planning
If you are wondering about whether you will have enough money to retire and how to anticipate future financial needs, you may wish to seek advice from one or more qualified financial advisors. UBC, including the Emeritus College, are not permitted to provide recommendations for financial or tax-planning advisors. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, an agency of the Government of Canada, provides information on Choosing a Financial Advisor. It may also be helpful seek income tax planning advice from a Chartered Professional Accountant tax specialist. You may wish to consult with friends and colleagues for their recommendations of financial advisors. A significant portion of UBC faculty members have cross-border financial and pension concerns; you are advised to consult qualified advisors with expertise in cross-border and dual citizenship matters.
Faculty Association members are eligible for reimbursement for retirement financial counselling, up to a maximum of three hours with a $750 limit, from a financial consultant who meets specific criteria. Visit the UBC HR Faculty Retirement website (CWL log-in required) and scroll down to Reimbursement for Retirement Counselling for more information and a link to the claim form.
