Below, you will find a description of those who are granted automatic membership (UBC Senate Approved) and those who are encouraged to apply for membership as Elected Members, with the necessary links for each in facilitating a connection to the College. For the official wording and further information, consult the Emeritus College Terms of Reference.
Retirees awarded Emeritus status by either the UBC Vancouver Senate or the UBC Okanagan Senate become College members automatically. There is no application process.
The College encourages UBC retirees who are not eligible for Emeritus status to apply for membership. It hopes to attract those individuals who will help further the aims and mandate of the College and who have provided long standing and distinguished service to UBC equivalent to those for whom emeritus status is granted at UBC.
We also welcome applications from retired faculty from other recognized higher education institutions who may or may not have had a previous UBC appointment and whose service is comparable to those for which emeritus status is awarded at UBC
Applications for membership are reviewed by the Membership Committee. The Committee forwards its recommendation to the Emeritus College Council for the final membership decision which will be conveyed by the College Principal.
All new members of the UBC Emeritus College will receive a letter of welcome and an information package from the Principal of the College.
The College also welcomes two categories of non-members: Member Guests and non-members. Non-members who wish to receive Courtesy Communications are welcome to attend events and activities and are encouraged to sign up for the Emeritus College E-News.
