Okanagan Bridge Group

For the first time in a year of play, on June 13 the UBCO bridge SIG met on campus for an afternoon of bridge and socializing.  We thank the Emeritus College for booking space that turned out to be ideal for our purposes.  We hope to continue to play on campus, and that the location will draw more Emeriti to join our group.   We welcome all players, whether experienced or not, to join us for an afternoon of the cognitive challenge followed by socializing with colleagues.  

On June 13^th, there were five of us, with one being new to our group.  One of the more experienced players rotated out after a few hands to serve as advisor when there were questions.  The system works well for all: New players have the opportunity to check their knowledge when needed, and more experienced players check their knowledge by providing advice.  We were fortunate in that the  way the cards fell on several hands allowed review of popular conventions following a No Trump bid.  Nothing like repetition to help solidify conventions and strategies in memory!

The conventions in Audrey Grant’s “Bridge at a Glance”  will be used until our numbers are large enough for partnerships to be stabilized.  Thereafter, partners can develop their own agreements.
