France 2025; our visit to Paris, Versailles, Giverny and the Jura Mountain region.
with Rick Stokes, Associate Professor Emeritus, Paediatrics / Microbiology and Immunology
The trip was initiated following an invite to visit with my sister in the Jura Mountain region of Eastern France. Amazingly, neither of us had been to France before and so we decided to include a trip to Paris and all the tourist traps before travelling on to the Jura. We did all the standard “must dos” of Paris including the Eiffel Tower, Musée de l'Orangerie, Musée d'Orsay, Père Lachaise Cemetery and a trip along the Seine. We also had day trips to Versailles and Giverny both of which were horribly touristy. We then travelled by train to Bourg en Bresse in Eastern France and onto Grand Fontaine where my sister has a converted farmhouse. A complete contrast to Paris as it is a hamlet of 3 houses set in farmland. We visited several sites in the area including Pasteur’s residence in Arbois, the Royal Saltworks at Arc-et-Senans, Beaune hospice and Baume Le Monsieur abbey.
