Tribute to our Friend and Colleague Sneja Gunew
Sneja Gunew (d. January 2024) was the instigator of a writing group composed of eight retired feminist academics from UBC and SFU who met regularly over three years to write about our lives. Before she left us Sneja expressed the hope that her thirty-six brief contributions might be collected into an account of some aspects of her personal and professional life. Three of the members have worked on this project and can now share the result. This event will be not only a commemoration of her life but an opportunity for us to share the experience of working together on this self-publishing project. The book is entitled MEmoire:Textures of a Life, reflecting her love of texts and of textiles and how moiré changes according to the viewer’s perspective.
Copies of the book will be available at the event if preordered by October 20th. To order, send a message to Isabel Dyck: isabel.lowe2012@gmail.com The charge to cover printing alone is $25 per copy, and any voluntary additional contributions to the production costs will be welcome. Once you have placed your order we will let you know the best way to pay. There is a choice of two covers, one with a colour photo of Sneja, the other with a stylised black and white version of the same photo. Please indicate your preference, which will be taken into account if possible.
