Membership Categories and Eligibility

Emeritus College Members

Below, you will find a description of those who are granted automatic membership (UBC Senate Approved) and those who are encouraged to apply for membership as Elected Members, with the necessary links for each in facilitating a connection to the College. For the official wording and further information, consult the Emeritus College Terms of Reference

The Emeritus College welcomes elected individuals who will help further the aims and mandate of the College. We hope that individuals who have provided long standing and distinguished service to UBC, equivalent to those for which emeritus status is granted at UBC, will apply for membership in the College.

The College also welcomes non-members to take part in events and activities. Please sign up for the Emeritus College E-News for more information.

Please be aware that the benefits for elected members differ from those of automatic College members.

Expectations of Members

The vibrancy and future of the College depends on an active membership. The following actions on the part of each member play a vital role in helping the College enrich member retirement through the delivery of its multi-faceted initiatives. As a member, please:

  • Participate in ways that enrich your life and that of the College (please visit the Benefits of Membership section for ways to achieve this).
  • Consider putting forward your name to convene a special interest group, serve on a committee, the council or executive;
  • Provide feedback on the relevancy and effectiveness of the College; and
  • Notify the Office office@emerituscollege.ubc.ca of any changes in your contact information.

Revocation of College Membership

A member may inform the Principal in writing that such member does not wish to be a College Member.

In extraordinary circumstances, the College Council may revoke the membership of a College Member if at least two-thirds of the Voting Council Members approve a motion to revoke the membership. See section 3.5 of the Terms of Reference for further detail.
