Insights from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing: Environmental Factors and Biological Markers in Cognitive Health and Well-being
Dr. Paola Zaninotto will provide an overview of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing
(ELSA), a large cohort study of people aged 50 and older in England, and highlights findings
from two key studies. By the end of this event, participants will be able to:
- Understand the impact of environmental factors on depression and cognitive health in older adults.
Learn about the relationship between long-term exposure to pollutants (PM2.5 and NO2) and various cognitive functions, such as memory and executive function.
Gain insights into the associations between protein concentrations, dementia, and well-being based on longitudinal data from blood samples.
Speaker Biography: Dr. Paola Zaninotto is a Professor of Medical and Social Statistics at University College London, serving as the deputy director of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA). Her research focuses on the determinants of healthy life expectancy, physical health, and well-being in later life, with a particular interest in the role of environmental factors. She specializes in longitudinal data analysis, employing methods like structural equation models, multilevel models, and survival models.
