The Okanagan Rail Trail and Pelmewash Parkway in Lake Country
We will meet at the tennis courts on Woodsdale Road in Winfield (3724 Woodsdale Rd, Lake Country) at 1 pm on Monday May 5th. From there, we will ride west on Woodsdale Road, then along Pelmewash Parkway north to Oyama. At that point, there is an option to cycle north along Kalamalka Lake for a distance before turning around. Otherwise, we ride on the Rail Trail along the north and east sides of Wood Lake, stopping at features of interest. The trip around Wood Lake is 17 km and would take about an hour if we weren’t stopping.
There is a general store in Oyama that sells drinks and snacks, but please bring your own water to stay hydrated. There are several porta-potties along the route. Please wear layered clothing appropriate for the weather. Most of the trip will be along a wide, well-packed earth/gravel path, but Pelmewash is a paved multi-use (walking, roller blading, cycling) path. Only the section along Woodsdale is on a bike lane that is part of the road in sections. A helmet is advised.
Please let Melanie know if you are planning on coming at melanie.jones@ubc.ca.
