South India
Nancy Langton, Associate Professor Emeritus, Sauder School of Business
In January 2025 I traveled to India, to tour some of Tamil Nadu, the southernmost state of India. Our journey started in Chennai for 3 days, and then we flew to Madurai. After spending part of the day there we drove by van to Chettinad, where we spent 5 days, then drove to Kumbakonam, where we spent 2 days, then drove to Pondicherry, where we spent 4 days, before returning to Chennai for 2 more days.
Along the way we saw village life, observed activities at beaches, visited flower and food markets, observed rituals at temples, explored mansions from the past, watched basket weavers and people making Kalamkari paintings, and learned how fabrics were dyed for the paintings. We visited the communal village of Auroville and the strange Thennampakkam Village Azhagar Temple. And of course there was food. Lots of food.
