How Will Canada Prosper in the Next Age of Uncertainty?
Dr. Stephen Poloz, Former Governor of the Bank of Canada, Special Advisor, Osler
Dr. Poloz is a distinguished economist with four decades of experience in financial markets, forecasting, and economic policy. He is the author of The Next Age of Uncertainty: How the World Can Adapt to a Riskier Future (2022). Dr. Poloz was the ninth Governor of the Bank of Canada until June 2020. Prior to that appointment, he served as Chief Executive Officer at Export Development Canada. He has been a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund and at the Economic Planning Agency in Tokyo, Japan, and past president of the Ottawa Economics Association. In 2017, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Trent University. Dr. Poloz is a Certified International Trade Professional, and a graduate of Columbia University’s Senior Executive Program.

Dr. David Lorne J. Tyrrell is a visionary clinician-scientist, creative virologist, entrepreneur and academic leader. His most celebrated life-saving accomplishment, in collaboration with Morris Robbins, was the licensing of the first oral anti-viral drug for chronic hepatitis B (Lamivudine) in 200 countries. This led to the establishment of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology in 2010 at the University of Alberta, where Dr. Tyrrell is its Founder and Director.
The Henry G. Friesen International Prize in Health Research, established in 2005 by the Friends of Canadian Institutes of Health Research (FCIHR), recognizes exceptional innovation by a visionary health leader of international stature.

On February 27th we are pleased to welcome Dr. Catrine Tudor-Locke from the University of North Carolina - Charlotte.
Lecture Title: "Re-imagining Physical Activity Guidelines Using Practical Metrics Common to Most Wearable Technologies"
Summary: Public health guidelines traditionally frame in terms of frequency, intensity, time, and type. But how does this framework translate when we measure and track the number of steps we take in a day? This presentation dives into how to measure and modulate ambulatory physical activity using practical step counting and cadence tracking metrics common to most wearable technologies.
There is an option to attend in person at the Jim Pattison Pavilion South (room 1891), Vancouver General Hospital, or to join over Zoom.
